GARDAÍ have seized a number of computers during a series of raids as part of an investigation into an international child pornography ring.

Acting on a tip-off from Europol, gardaí carried out five separate raids as part of Operation “Koala”. A number of arrests are expected after the computers and material seized are forensically examined. Police in Britain have made 46 arrests and a further 25 people have been arrested in France during the global clampdown which was co-ordinated by police forces in 19 countries.

More than 2,500 customers were identified and thousands of computers, videos and photographs were seized. In a large number of cases, more than a million files and pictures were found according to Europol and Eurojust.
