HSE blames nurses’ hours for loss of theatre time

UP to 1,800 surgical procedures a year are being lost at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital due to ongoing restricted work practices by more than 70 theatre nurses, the Health Service Executive said yesterday.

A spokesman said repeated efforts to sort out the issue have failed.

Shorter hours being worked by the theatre nurses combined with unofficial tea breaks are being blamed.
