Priest’s handling of funeral was ‘hurtful’

A GRIEVING family has lodged a complaint with the Bishop of Cork and Ross about a priest’s handling of a funeral.

John Cronin’s family told Bishop John Buckley they were very hurt by the way Fr Mark Hehir, a curate based at the city’s Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne (North Cathedral), had conducted his funeral Mass.

Fr Hehir directed the family to remove a football team flag draped over the coffin before allowing it in to the Cathedral.
