Polish school to open tomorrow

A SCHOOL teaching exclusively in Polish, the first of its kind in the south-east, will begin classes tomorrow.

More than 100 pupils have enrolled at Waterford school based at St Paul’s Community College.

The school in Waterford, and another in Cork, were officially launched last weekend. Funded by the Polish government, the weekend schools are designed to cater for Polish children that may return to their native country.

The schools are now established at St Clement’s College in Limerick, St Patrick’s Boys’ NS in Gardiner’s Hill, Cork and at St Paul’s, Waterford. A school is also due to be set up in Cavan next week, according to the Polish embassy.

Children attending the schools are sent with consent of parents, while they are also obliged to attend Irish schools mid-week, it emerged yesterday.
