FG targets crowded school

FINE GAEL yesterday highlighted what may be the most overcrowded school in the country.

Its education spokesman Brian Hayes visited Gorey Community School, which has 1,700 students.

“Gorey has seen a doubling of its population over a relatively short period of time,” said Mr Hayes.

“The community school is the only school in the area and has to cater solely for the educational needs of a population of 30,000. The people of Gorey have been given promise after promise by the Fianna Fáil government but every pledge has been broken.”

Mr Hayes proposed the drawing up of strategic development zones for schools.
