Lenihan: ‘We’ll have to be more prudent’

JUSTICE Minister Brian Lenihan has admitted the Government will need to show prudence in the forthcoming Budget — meaning there is little prospect of crowd-pleasing spending measures.

Mr Lenihan indicated that while there would be “some latitude for borrowing”, it would be limited.

Last week, the Government revealed it was facing the prospect of a €1 billion black hole in the public finances by the time of the budget in December.
