Labour deputy poll in close finish

CONTENDERS for the deputy leadership of the Labour Party last night predicted an extremely close finish when postal ballots are counted this afternoon.

Dublin West’s Joan Burton and Limerick East’s Jan O’Sullivan last week completed their countrywide campaign, which involved attending eight party hustings attended by up to 1,000 members.

Last night, Ms Burton said she was both optimistic and hopeful of succeeding.
