THE Green Party last night forcibly distanced itself from calls by one of its most high profile members for the immediate resignation of the Taoiseach.

Former MEP Patricia McKenna, who recently gained the support of 35% of the Greens for a leadership bid, said the Taoiseach should do the “honourable thing” and resign.

Breaking ranks with elected members of the party who backed the Taoiseach in a motion of confidence on Wednesday, Ms McKenna told The Irish Examiner her call for the Taoiseach’s resignation was simply her “personal opinion”.
