SCHOOLS are experiencing big problems of discrimination against students from different backgrounds, the Equality Authority has warned.

Schools and colleges were the subject of almost one in six complaints investigated under the Equal Status Acts last year, with six of the nine grounds of discrimination covered.

A little less than half of the 57 cases against educational institutions were for alleged discrimination on the grounds of membership of the Traveller community or disability.
