JUSTICE Minister Brian Lenihan yesterday admitted gun crime posed a “serious problem” for the country.

But he said no effort would be spared in tracking down the “cowardly” gunmen who shot an unarmed traffic garda at close range with a sawn-off shotgun.

Mr Lenihan said the garda was “immediately shot” on approaching the occupants of a car, which he had pulled over after a report it had been stolen.
