Concerns eased as bank funds guaranteed

WORRIED bank customers breathed a sigh of relief yesterday after it was confirmed Irish Northern Rock deposit holders funds would be guaranteed if the firm collapsed.

For a second morning, hundreds of anxious customers lined up outside the British firm’s Irish offices along Harcourt Street, Dublin, from 4.30am.

Many, eager to get back life savings and inheritance money, were unable to access accounts online or contact the bank’s helpline.
