Who brings home the bacon?

IN THIS part of the world, we may excel at making booze but our culinary history is more famine than feast.

Still, at least we have the classic rasher sandwich.

We may now have all varieties of artisan bacon but for years there was just Denny’s and Galtee — don’t you just get all ’80s even thinking about it?

So, it’s easily understood how Mr Galtee nearly lost his life when he heard them there Denny’s unequivocally declare to the nation that their bacon was the best.

According to the Advertising Standards Authority, Cawley Nea/TWBA lodged a complaint on behalf of Mr Galtee when his adversary broadcast a radio advert including the statement: “Because you demand the perfect rasher, we keep making ours the best.”

In their decision, the authority upheld the complaint saying that Galtee should have offered more documentary evidence to substantiate their claims.
