A TRAVELLERS’ representative group has accused Waterford City Council of acting illegally when it evicted 11 Traveller families from a controversial halting site.

Caravans temporarily parked at the Kilbarry site — which hosted violent scenes two weeks ago — were removed by the council last Friday and the families living in them told to move on.

The council said yesterday that it had “no option” but to insist unauthorised caravans leave the site.
