Slight fall in number claiming benefit

LIVE register figures for August showed a slight decrease in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit.

The seasonally-adjusted live register total for August was 162,000 — down by 1,000 from July.

However, in the year to August 2007, there was an unadjusted increase of 4,592 (up 2.7%).
