WET weather may have prompted more than 800,000 Irish people to head overseas in July, but it didn’t prevent a marked increase in the amount of visitors coming here from Britain, Europe and north America.

July’s dismal weather caused 4% increase in overseas travel

The amount of Irish people going on trips overseas jumped from 778,100 in July of 2006 to 808,900 in July of this year — a 4% lift.

According to Met Éireann data, July was “a very wet month” with at least one millimetre of rainfall every day between June 11 and July 29 and temperatures rarely getting above 20C.
