Student fails to secure release from Senegal jail

IRISH student Patrick Devine remains in a Senegalese prison following his court appearance yesterday.

“Unfortunately, he hasn’t been released this morning, as was hoped,” a spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed last evening.

Mr Devine, aged 19, was arrested on July 27 for allegedly dropping his trousers in a dare that went wrong outside the Saint-Louis home of one of the country’s governors.
