Hector to lift Déise spirits at race fest

The TV presenter is doing his bit to lift the county after the hurlers’ defeat at the hands of Limerick in the All-Ireland semi-final.

An estimated 25,000 visitors are expected to descend on the Waterford and Tramore Racecourse for the August Racing Festival, over four days until Sunday.

Visitors will enjoy 28 races with prize money of over €320,000 where “the surf meets the turf”.

Déise Evening starts the festival tomorrow with first race at 5.10pm.

Hector said: “Thursday night is Waterford senior hurlers’ night and could be one of the greatest nights of all.”

On Friday, a barbecue will incorporate a post-races disco in the festival marquee.

A celebrity judging panel including RTÉ stylist Marietta Doran and chef Kevin Dundon will pick the most stylish ladies and gents on Saturday.

Racecourse general manager Sue Phelan said: “We have put a lot of work in to the programme for this year’s festival and Hector will get us off to a lively start.”
