Society may seek €50m to vacate site

A CHARITY facing eviction from its 120-year-old headquarters could seek up to €50 million compensation from a local authority.

Munster Agricultural Society (MAS) chairman Gerard Murphy confirmed yesterday that it has appointed a panel of experts to value the society’s Cork Showgrounds site.

The property and legal experts from Dublin and Cork will prepare a detailed submission for Cork City Council, which was cleared earlier this year to proceed with a compulsory purchase order of the 22-acre site it leases to the MAS.
