Gardaí continue to question man in connection with brutal assault

GARDAÍ in Tralee were questioning a 41-year-old local man last evening in connection with a brutal assault in the town last March.

The man was arrested at an address in the town just before 8am yesterday and brought to Tralee Garda Station.

He is suspected of assaulting Michael Quinn, aged 21, in broad daylight at Brewery Road, near Tralee Greyhound Track, on March 22 last.

Two women from Tralee, aged 39 and 29, who were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of withholding information about the assault, had their periods of detention extended and were still being quizzed separately by gardaí in Tralee and Listowel yesterday.

Mr Quinn was stamped on several times on the head by his assailant and sustained serious injuries.

He was later put on life support at Kerry General Hospital, in Tralee, and is still suffering from his injuries.

A man was seen running away from Brewery Road around the time the assault occurred (6.30pm).

The man was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for a maximum of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Xtravision is to review its security in Killarney following a robbery at the company’s premises in the town last Friday night. Two men, one armed with a knife and the other with what could have been a gun, held up staff and got away with around €600 cash.

One staff member received minor injuries during the incident which occurred at around 8.30pm.
