A NUMBER of victims of disgraced obstetrician Dr Michael Neary who received short notice of a compensation scheme may miss the August deadline to apply, a group representing them has warned.

Patient Focus said there was a danger that any women on holidays since the Health Service Executive (HSE) wrote to them two weeks ago to inform them of their right to redress may discover the entitlement too late.

Patient Focus spokes-woman Sheila O’Connor said it was “a bit disappointed” with how the Redress Board has worked, “particularly in relation to women who had oopherectomies [both ovaries removed] — they only learnt two weeks ago that they could apply for redress”.
