MUSIC retailer HMV Ireland has doubled the amount of shelf space devoted to vinyl after a resurgence of interest in traditional LPs and seven-inch singles.

HMV, which has nine stores across the Republic, is selling 45rpm singles and 12-inch albums by artists as diverse as the Editors, Amy Winehouse and Paul McCartney.

Demand for vinyl singles in the first six months of this year was up 42% on the same period last year.
