Shock as mother and child die in tragic drowning

FOR the first Saturday in weeks the small north Cork village of Kilworth woke up to clear summer skies.

Gareth Owen flew in from London the previous night and his wife Nollaig allowed him to stay in bed while she took their nine-month-old son Tadhg for a walk.

Pushing a buggy, she left the house where she grew up on Main Street at 9.30am and crossed over to where the road snakes into the countryside.
