BUSINESSES not connected to proper sewerage treatment plants have been urged not to pay a controversial charge introduced by the Department of the Environment.

The so-called water in, water out charge is operated through a metering system, which calculates the amount of sewerage which emanates from a business premises.

While many businesses are hooked up to proper sewerage treatment systems, hundreds, especially in west Cork, are not.
