Gardaí injured as gang rams checkpoint

Garda Eoin Behan was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was hit by one of the gang’s two cars as he tried to force them to stop on a back road near Ballyragget, 12 miles from Kilkenny city, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

His condition at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny was described last night as comfortable. A colleague, Garda Trevor Shore, was also hospitalised for neck injuries he received when the car he was sitting in was rammed, but he was able to be discharged after treatment yesterday afternoon.
