LABOUR leader Pat Rabbitte last night admitted his party would be faced with a “blank canvas” if the Dáil failed to elect a government when it returns next month.

The remark was seen as an indication the party would feel free to consider its options if the June 14 vote for taoiseach failed to deliver a clear-cut winner.

“If we don’t [elect] the government on the 14th there is a blank canvas but to be honest the views I held before the election and the things I said before the election are the things that I believe now and I don’t see that changing,” said Mr Rabbitte.
