Neurology recruitment ‘at odds with expert report’

THE director of neurology at Beaumont Hospital has criticised plans to recruit consultant neurologists in parts of the country that she claims are at odds with recommendations in an expert report.

Dr Orla Hardiman said the Health Service Executive (HSE) was at variance with a 2003 Comhairle na nOspidéal report, whose recommendations it had accepted, by advertising posts for Castlebar in Co Mayo and Drogheda in Co Louth.

According to Dr Hardiman, the locations of the two posts are also at odds with an upcoming report by the Neurology Needs Assessment Group.
