On day five of the campaign, the Fianna Fáil deputy was the chief critic of the Government’s handling of the health service, saying he was getting scalded on the doorsteps.

By day 12, in a column he wrote for Wednesday’s Evening Echo newspaper, his concerns had evaporated.
