Search for raiders after post office robbery
They said that two raiders, one of whom was brandishing what appeared to be a handgun, while the other had a wrench, made their way into the post office in the village of Stradbally yesterday.
No one was injured during the robbery and the pair fled the scene in a silver-coloured car, which was driven by a third man.
The vehicle was found burned out shortly afterwards in a wooded area along the Stradbally/Kilmacthomas Road.
A garda spokesman said they believed that the robbery was planned, and it was likely that the post office was being watched for some time before the raid was carried out.
The scene was sealed off while garda experts carried out a technical examination.
Local concerns were voiced in the village yesterday about pensioners being left without money for the weekend.
Anybody who may have seen the men or the car, either before or after the robbery is asked to contact gardaí at Tramore at 051- 391620, or the garda confidential line at 1800-666 111.
