Girl challenges State for right to travel to abort

THE HSE has no legal power to direct the gardaí to restrain a person who is the subject of a care order, the High Court heard yesterday.

Counsel for the State set out the Attorney General’s position in the case of the 17-year-old who is four months pregnant with a baby who suffers from a condition where a major part of the brain is missing.

The court heard that the girl, known as Miss D, wants to go to Britain to terminate her pregnancy.
