Election fever shifts focus off Bertie’s trials

FOR a moment, it looked like Bertie Ahern had won the first important victory of this general election campaign.

At 8am on Sunday morning, he requested that the President dissolve the Dáil, and in doing so, placed the Mahon Tribunal in a very difficult position indeed.

The tribunal was due to hear the opening statement in respect of its latest module of investigation yesterday.
