Gardaí bid to find family of murdered Eastern European man

GARDAÍ were last night trying to make contact with the family of an East European man who was murdered in Thurles at the weekend and whose naked body was found in a field on Sunday evening.

The man, in his early 30s, is believed to have been living in the town for at least two years and worked in the area for a time. Two people who were living in a rented house with him, also from eastern Europe, helped to identify the body.

An appeal was renewed yesterday by Superintendent Tony Cogan for information on the circumstances surrounding the man’s death likely to have occurred in the vicinity of the corner of the Railway Field where his body was found, near Semple Stadium and Thurles greyhound track and beside St Ailbhe’s national school. A search for the murder weapon — believed to be a knife — is ongoing.
