AS nurses plan one-hour stoppages at 50 hospital and mental health facilities next week a Fianna Fáil backbencher has warned that their dispute would cost the Government seats in the General Election.

Cork South West TD Denis O’Donovan marched with protesting nurses during their one-hour stoppage outside Bantry General Hospital on Tuesday and had his photograph taken with them.

“There are 40,000 nurses in the country. There are a lot of nurses in my constituency. It is an issue that concerns me,” he said yesterday.
