FIANNA Fáil’s newly-launched economic document was described as a “new set of empty promises” which are waiting to be broken by Fine Gael yesterday.

Following publication of the Securing Prosperity: The Next Step Forward document yesterday, Fine Gael’s finance spokesman Richard Bruton accused Fianna Fáil of using figures which were at odds with those published by the Department of Finance.

He claimed that while Fianna Fáil were estimating that cuts in the marginal and standard tax rates would cost €155 million and €411m per annum, the Department of Finance had published estimates of €211m and €512m respectively.
