Dead OAPs charged rent

EMBARRASSED council officials have acted quickly to change a system which saw it charging dead pensioners for rent.

Cork’s city manager, Joe Gavin, confirmed that the system used by council officers to calculate the rent charged to elderly tenants has been overhauled to eliminate the problem.

The situation was investigated by Labour Cllr Ciarán Lynch after a widower brought it to his attention.
