Health boards were more efficient, says new IMO chief

OUR health system is “painfully slow” and less efficient than the former health boards, according to the incoming president of the Irish Medical Organisation.

Dr Paula Gilvarry also criticised the sluggish recruitment of full-time nursing home inspection teams, suggesting they would not be in place until autumn at the earliest.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) established a nursing home inspection working group, which in May 2006 recommended priority be given to dedicated teams.
