THE IRA yesterday apologised to the family of a former volunteer that the organisation murdered in 1990.

No order had been issued by the IRA for the killing of Newry man Eoin Morley and his death was “wrong”, they admitted.

It had long been suspected that Mr Morley (23) was the victim of a “punishment shooting” gone wrong, which would explain why the IRA claimed responsibility for the attack but said his killing was not sanctioned.
