FEWER than one-in-100 people who applied to join the Garda Reserve last year were accepted as part-time members of the force.

Figures from the Commission for Public Service Appointments show there is less than a 1% chance of success for applicants to the controversial auxiliary force.

According to the CPSA’s annual report, just 73 of 7,358 applicants were appointed to the reserve during 2006.
