WORKERS at Shannon Airport have voted overwhelmingly in favour of accepting company plans to cut at least 200 jobs in an attempt to secure the airport’s future.

Separate ballots by SIPTU, Impact and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union all balloted their members asking would they accept company proposals for voluntary redundancies and a lump sum payment for those who remain.

The apparent acceptance of the deal has taken 18 months to hammer out and has cost the company €2 million more than it had initially wanted to pay.
