A POWERFUL cholesterol-busting drug stops early atherosclerosis, a disease that can lead to strokes and heart attacks, new research has found.

The groundbreaking study represents the first step to see whether a drug called Crestor and other statins should be more widely prescribed.

But while the drug was found to halt or slow down thickening in the neck arteries of people at low risk for heart attacks and strokes, it failed to reverse the condition, something the researchers had hoped for.
