THE Dáil will have voted on a new crime bill by the time the State’s official watchdog on human rights completes its assessment on the controversial legislation.

Members of the parliament are due to receive the submission of Irish Human Rights Commission (IHRC) next Thursday — the same day they vote on the Criminal Justice Bill 2007.

The bill contains a series of radical measures, including further restrictions on the right to silence, reduced access to bail and longer periods of detention for questioning.
