Labour Court calls for Aer Lingus staff compo

THE Labour Court has recommended that Aer Lingus pay compensation to its staff for a proposed reduction in holidays and changes to work practices in a bid to avert the threat of industrial action at the airline.

Both management and unions are expected to enter into detailed negotiations over the next few weeks to try and agree on adequate compensation levels. However, any failure to reach agreement on the issue could spark fresh threats of disruption to flights.

Unions at Aer Lingus are also likely to resist proposals which would allow the company to pay local rates to employees located at new foreign bases.
