Canal search for missing teenager to resume today

Members of the garda sub-aqua unit and the garda dog unit will continue their hunt along the banks of the Grand Canal for the body of 18-year-old David White, from Carrickmore Avenue in Citywest, Dublin. A divisional search team will also take part.

The body of Mr White’s 18-year-old friend Shane Coughlan, was recovered from the canal on Wednesday. Mr Coughlan, of Millpark, Clondalkin, is the younger brother of Sheffield Wednesday player Graham Coughlan.

A post mortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy revealed that the cause of death was drowning.

The young men had been at a party in Clondalkin on Saturday night before leaving for a 24-hour shop at an Esso filling station. The two were last seen at 4.30am on Sunday morning.

On Tuesday, footwear belonging to Mr White was found on the canal bank, prompting the canal search.

Searches will resume between 9-10am this morning along the Fonthill Road. Anyone with any information which may assist gardaí with their search can telephone 01-6667600.
