THE diverse range of churches and faith communities which create Ireland’s multicultural reality require a new and sympathetic response, the Taoiseach said yesterday.

Speaking at the first structured talks between the State and all religious leaders, Mr Ahern said the position of the larger and more established denominations and faith communities must also receive continued respect.

In the opening address to church leaders, faith communities and non-confessional bodies in Dublin Castle, Mr Ahern said the future series of bi-lateral discussions would help to create a more “tolerant, inclusive, reflective society”.
