A NURSING HOME owner has defended the practice of using bandages to restrain elderly patients.

Terry Crawley, of the Sancta Maria home in Enniscrone, Co Sligo, said breaches of regulations outlined in an inspection report were done in the interests of patient safety.

“Some people, by standing up, risked falling down so we put light bandages around them. Their families knew about this and were happy with it.
