The two acts join The Who, Slayer, Status Quo and BellX1 for the third Live at the Marquee festival, which runs in Cork from June 22 to July 7 next. More acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Oklahoma City rock band, The Flaming Lips, formed in 1983, but shot to prominence in the 1990s, with albums such as Transmissions from the Satellite Heart and The Soft Bulletin.
Known for wacky song titles and elaborate stage shows, The Flaming Lips were named as one of the best 25 live bands around by Spin magazine last year.
This is Christy Moore’s third consecutive year playing the Marquee festival. Demand for tickets to see the legend that released his first recording in 1969 look set be as great this year. Moore should prove a great draw for fans of Planxty and Moving Hearts, both bands he was central to, as well as fans of his extensive solo repertoire.
Moore performs on July 7, with The Flaming Lips concert on July 3. Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster outlets on February 23, priced at €49.20 for The Flaming Lips and €45.40 and €35 for Moore.
