Mother breaks down in witness box

A MOTHER-of-seven broke down in the witness box yesterday as she told the High Court how she found out she was pregnant several weeks after a sterilisation operation, after she was admitted to a hospital accident-and-emergency department with abdominal pain.

When the doctor asked Bridget Byrne how her baby was, she told him he must have the wrong chart because she could not be pregnant.

Ms Byrne’s testimony came on the second day of a landmark action before Justice Peter Kelly, by the mother-of-seven and her husband Daniel, against the Coombe Hospital, Dublin.
