Polish man stabs son in domestic row

A FATHER stabbed his son during a domestic row in Cork yesterday.

The 57-year-old Polish man attacked his 28-year-old son after the row broke out in a house in the centre of Ballincollig at around 2am.

His injuries were described as not life-threatening. He was recovering in Cork University Hospital (CUH) last night after undergoing emergency surgery yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Health Service Executive described his condition as “stable.”

Gardaí were waiting for his condition to improve before speaking to him.

They were called to an address in the exclusive Old Quarter housing estate in the centre of the town at around 2am after neighbours became concerned when a dispute broke out inside a house in the Leslie’s Arch area.

When they arrived at the scene, they found two men on the road. The young man had suffered a number of stab wounds to his body.

It is understood that there was no-one else in the house at the time.

The injured man was taken to CUH where he underwent minor surgery. The house and parts of the road were preserved for technical examination. Gardaí said a number of items were also recovered from the house.

No arrests were made and gardaí will await the outcome of their interview with the injured man before deciding the next stage of their investigation.
