A TOTAL of 1,500 workers face an uncertain future at a contact lens manufacturing plant after management yesterday put them on protective notice.

Management at Bausch & Lomb, which is based at the IDA Industrial Park in Waterford, took the action after the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) served strike notice for tomorrow night.

The union served notice because a shop steward is to be suspended at the plant.
