THE Government plan to rush a “mini” Broadcasting Bill through the Oireachtas today has been shelved.

The bill would make RTÉ television available to Irish emigrants in Britain, an initiative championed by Labour TD Emmet Stagg.

The new legislation would also facilitate the speedy roll-out of digital television in Ireland, a key priority of Communications Minister Noel Dempsey.
