McDowell: Less is more when it comes to collecting domestic violence data

BY collecting less data on domestic violence, gardaí are getting a more complete picture of the problem, the Justice Minister Michael McDowell has revealed.

Mr McDowell said the introduction of new reporting procedures had resulted in the removal of detailed statistics on domestic violence cases from the garda annual report.

The Tánaiste said such measures would ensure consistency since the garda records changed from a paper based system to the new Pulse computer database.
